MèssochwënTëme and Jeanne White Owl Davis pets, Tëme Tèt(Timber Wolf and Artic Wolf ) and Teddy Bear(Rodesian Ridgeback) had five pups. It is hard finding responsible homes as many people in this area see these pups as having the potential to be fighting dogs.  We have put together a booklet that we give to anyone who may be interested in giving one of these pups a great loving home.  No one can predict how much of each breed these pups might display , as they have grown we see both the Wolf and Rodesian  qualities. For sure they will be very large adults!  Please pass the word to anyone who is interested. Wado! Wanishi! To all my relations.

It's Thanksgiving time again. Most of us associate the holiday with happy Pilgrims and Indians sitting down to a big feast. And that did happen - once.

The story began in 1614 when a band of English explorers sailed home to  England with a ship full of Patuxet Indians bound for slavery. They left behind smallpox which virtually wiped out those who had escaped.  By the time the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts Bay they found only one living Patuxet Indian, a man named Squanto who had survived slavery in England and knew their
language.  He taught them to grow corn and to fish, and negotiated a peace treaty between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Nation. At the end of their first year, the Pilgrims held a great feast honoring Squanto and the Wampanoags.

But as word spread in England about the paradise to be found in the new world, religious zealots called Puritans began arriving by the boat load. Finding no fences around the land, they considered it to be in the public domain. Joined by other British settlers, they seized land, capturing strong young Natives for slaves
and killing the rest. But the Pequot Nation had not agreed to the peace treaty Squanto had negotiated and they fought back. The Pequot War was one of the bloodiest Indian wars ever fought.

In 1637 near present day  Groton, Connecticut, over 700 men, women and children of the Pequot Tribe had gathered for their annual Green Corn Festival which is our Thanksgiving celebration. In the predawn hours the sleeping Indians were surrounded by English and Dutch mercenaries who ordered them to come
outside.  Those who came out were shot or clubbed to death while the terrified women and children who huddled inside the longhouse were burned alive. The next day the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony declared "A Day Of Thanksgiving" because 700 unarmed men, women and children had been murdered.

Cheered by their "victory", the brave colonists and their Indian allies attacked village after village. Women and children over 14 were sold into slavery while the rest were murdered.  Boats loaded with a many as 500 slaves regularly left the ports of New England. Bounties were paid for Indian scalps to encourage as many deaths as possible.

Following an especially successful raid against the Pequot in what is now  Stamford, Connecticut, the churches announced a second day of "thanksgiving" to celebrate victory over the heathen savages. During the feasting, the hacked off heads of Natives were kicked through the streets like soccer balls. Even the friendly Wampanoag did not escape the madness. Their chief was beheaded, and his head impaled on a pole in Plymouth, Massachusetts -- where it remained on display for 24 years.

The killings became more and more frenzied, with days of thanksgiving feasts being held after each successful massacre. George Washington finally suggested that only one day of Thanksgiving per year be set aside instead of celebrating each and every massacre. Later Abraham Lincoln decreed Thanksgiving Day to be a legal national holiday during the Civil War -- on the same day he ordered
troops to march against the starving Sioux in Minnesota.

This story doesn't have quite the same fuzzy feelings associated with it as the one where the Indians and Pilgrims are all sitting down together at the big feast. But we need to learn our true history so it won't ever be repeated.  Next,   Thanksgiving, when you gather with your loved ones to Thank God for all your blessings, think about those people who only wanted to live their lives and raise their families. They, also took time out to say "thank you" to Creator for all
their blessings.

Indigenous Peoples Report - Larry Morningstar
Group Asks Senate to Kill Energy Bill
Thu Nov 20, 2003
Associated Press Writer
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The nation's largest American Indian organization on Thursday urged the Senate to kill the massive energy bill under consideration, citing concerns such as tribal sovereignty, the environment and health issues.

The National Congress of American Indians, which has been meeting here all week, planned to send a letter to
Washington asking senators to vote against the measure.

The Republican-backed bill has come under heavy criticism by Indian leaders, who say it would eliminate the Department of Interior's trust responsibility to tribes and leave them vulnerable by waiving the federal government's liability in energy development.

The bill offers up to $22 million in loan guarantees and grants over 10 years to help tribes develop energy resources. But tribes opting for reduced government oversight would lose the ability to hold the department accountable for abuses and losses on energy projects.

Other tribal representatives said they had concerns ranging from storage of nuclear waste to huge methane coal developments that are polluting water and other resources on tribal land.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee and other Republicans have set a parliamentary vote for Friday to end debate. That would force a final up-or-down decision on the bill, which breezed through the House on Tuesday.

FBI Director Robert Mueller also spoke at Thursday's meeting, telling tribal leaders that the federal government has a responsibility to work with Indian tribes to make the nation secure.

Mueller said tribes along the United States' borders are concerned that terrorists -- in addition to a stream of illegal immigrants -- could use their sparsely populated lands to sneak into the country.

Tribal lands make up of hundreds of miles of the United States' borders with Canada and Mexico.

"While the FBI does not have primary responsibility for these border issues, we still have a responsibility to include tribes in our national counterterrorism efforts," Mueller said.

I grew up in the fifties with practical parents -- a Mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it.  She was the original recycle queen, before they had a name for it... A Father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones.    Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away.
I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, dishtowel in the
other.   It was the time for fixing things -- a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress.  Things we keep.

It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy.  All that re-fixing, reheating, renewing, I wanted just once to be
wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more.
But then my Mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any 'more.' Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return.
So...while we have's best we love it.....and care for it.....and fix it when it's broken.....and heal it when it's sick.  This is true.....for marriage.....and old cars.....and children with bad report cards.....and dogs with bad hips.....and aging
parents.....and grandparents.
We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it.  Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away  or a classmate we grew up with.
There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special.....and so, we keep them close!

"We are the people we have been waiting for," are the words spoken by the Hopi Elders and as Native American's we have been instructed to protect our sacred sites. Protecting these sacred sites long before the arrival of the many cultures that landed upon the shores of Turtle Island in the homelands our indigenous nations of the Americas.
We are now getting powerful messages from the spirits of our ancestors. This means not just the Native American's but also all cultures of this planet. In order for the prejudices and angers to subside we had to go through this turmoil that we are in today, in our families and all things related upon earth. What has happened in history has happened to bring us all to this place of healing. These kinds of messages are to be talked about and heard by the indigenous peoples and others for we would all remember our responsibilities as earth's caretakers. In doing so the Indigenous people would lead the way in teaching the whole world how to rebalance the earth and come back into harmony with themselves and harmonize earth mother once again.
Wise indigenous elders have long understood the delicate web of life's energy that keeps all of nature in balance. Most of these areas have been taken from our keeping and put into bondage. Our traditions recognized these places to be sacred and to be left undisturbed. Buildings, dams, bridges, and blasting down rock canyons for trails know as highways hurt these very special areas. There is a way to build in a sacred way with good vibration. The Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks/Caspian Sea are examples of sacred sites that have become unstable. Geologists call this seismic activity.
The Caspian Sea Region represents the littoral states of the Middle East's resource areas. They represent the opposite side of the earth corresponding to the area of mother earth that is Yellowstone Lake in the Yellowstone National Park. I am enclosing a look at the Caspian Sea region county analysis at Is it any wonder that because of what is going on there in mining, drilling for oil and with war in Iraq and Afghanistan that Mother nature is reacting at Yellowstone with the seismic disturbances and is trying to put herself back into balance. Analysis.
We have yet to understand the implications of draining the oil pockets and other recourses out of the earth. We are all electrical energy just as the earth is. Dynamite blasting, atomic and nuclear bombing upon the surface's crust of the earth has changed the electrical grid that gives us life.
When we dig and scrape the earth with pipelines telephone lines, electrical lines, water lines, etc. we disconnect the web of life. Today the exploitation of fossil fuels, dynamiting, atomic and nuclear blasting continues to vibrate this delicate balance. We are also using the atmosphere for our garbage dump destroying another sacred site. The race to modernize our lifestyle threatens every living organism. Is it too late? War is one of the major discords of negativity there ever has ever been disconnecting the web of life. And in doing so she has to have hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, volcanoes, tidal waves, hurricanes and tornadoes to put her back into balance. Then once these entities of nature, earths sacred spirits, place the earth back into balance, then immediately following these weather changes the humans go right back at it again and vibrate her again in negative ways with machines digging, scrapping, and blowing her up with weapons of mass destruction.! This is what has caused Mother Nature to come down upon us and devastate us because of our actions.
We have gathered together for the opportunity to collectively experience ourselves as a spiritual family in our sacred circles. For those who prayed and did ceremonies during the Harmonic Concordance, the lunar eclipsed of the moon on November 8th, 2003, many of you are asking sacred questions, "What more can I/we do?" With another sacred event known as the solar eclipse arriving on November 23, 2003, I am calling all our prayers to be spiritually conjoined by all cultures standing together during the solar eclipse at noon, 12:00 p.m. in your local time periods.
Our Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are calling for our prayers. The war in Iraq and the Middle East (Caspian Sea area) are calling out for our prayers. Because our hearts are responding for a change, this change is necessary for the survival of our home planet Earth, our Mother. It is time to forgive and forget and move forward into sacredness. I believe this to be of great importance to us at this time. The vision is to pray for balance and harmony in these areas. With our prayers, songs, drums and the ways that we have been instructed in our spiritual teachings will bring a caring loving attitude no matter what culture you/we are our hearts make the difference for peace. Now the question is what are we going to do about it humanity.
Thank you for your attention, and prayers please respond to:

Spiritual Elders, Medicine People, Shamans, Mystics,

Light Workers, Rainbow Warriors, and Earth Activists

A Special Message From Lee Standing Bear Moore

It Is Not Going To Happen This Way

Spirit workers of this age are wasting a their time and energy sticking their collective heads in the sand waiting for some cataclysmic event of the cosmos that will somehow mystically transform our earthly existence.  We are not helping creation by wandering around in empty illusory space chanting, channeling and chortling bits of energy at each other.

We must not stray too deeply into the realms of Light, just as we should not wander into the dark places.   We live in reality of this time and space and must work in both worlds.  We must learn to unite the two – light and reality.    If we continue this one-sided path of oblivion, disregarding the real problems of Mother Earth, we risk… everything.

It is good to pray and call upon great powers of loving energy vibrations to heal the Mother.  However, we must also become active in reversing the tremendous crisis least we become a part of the great apathy that consumes most of humankind.   We must become a part of the solution.

This world is not an illusion as we have heard many of our brothers and sisters say.  Others say we are living in the “end times” or in between worlds, or this reality is not real, but a dream.  They say there is little that can be done to revive the Mother, so they spend their time preparing for the dimension. Is this some sort of psychotic response to the terrible crisis mankind now faces?   Are we attempting to save ourselves while the rest of creation goes into the dumpster?   Is this some kind of lunacy?

The world of Light is not separate from the reality of this world.   We cannot separate creation from the Creator.   We cannot separate ourselves from the reality of our four-legged cousins who suffer near extinction.  We cannot live in clouded numinous worlds of light and not see the beautiful standing ones turn brown from chemical pollution.   We can no longer sit by and watch our relatives who swim and fly die by the millions in the name of ‘progress’.  The insects needed by plants; birds and fish to survive are drowning in pesticides, while we sit smugly in our ceremonial circles waving sage to purify our sanctimonious butts.

If we believe the Light is sacred then we must also believe creation is sacred to be respected and honored.

Disrespect for nature began when organized western religions canonized the false idea that man has dominion over the earth.   The demigods of western religion demonized nature and considered her less than man for man they say was created in the image of God.    Man does not own this garden called earth.  Our purpose here is not to capitalize on her resources and abuse her beauty.   We are given the privilege of tending the garden so that it may give us sustenance and the greater glory of this work is given to the Creator.

Light workers believe in the visions, energies and powers gifted man by the Creator and the omnipotent powers of the Great Mystery.  Light workers understand that man is but one small grain of sand in the universe and part of the greater whole of creation.  We are made of the Mother and when we seek to desecrate, plunder and destroy her, we destroy ourselves.

Earth Activists Are Dying

We give thanks to the activists who have fought so long and tirelessly to call our attention to the dire circumstance of earth’s present condition.   They have endured years of attacks from mega-national corporations, government bureaucrats, organized Christian churches, and the right-wing media.  They have suffered at the hands of an apathetic public.

Moreover, do-nothing Spiritual Elders, Medicine people, Shamans, Mystics, and so-called Light Seekers are adding to the weight of their burden as they sit motionless staring at the clouds spewing out beatitudes.

After years of achieving but meager gains, the activists now feel desolation and are desperate for relief.   They are frantic with grief knowing they are losing the battle to save Mother Earth.  Their spirit wanes and financial resources are drying up.  Many have lost hope.

Unite Now or… Will The Last Person On Earth Kindly Turn Out the Lights?

Spiritual Elders, Medicine people, Shamans, Mystics, and Light Workers must become more passionate and active in the battle to save Mother Earth.   We must ground ourselves in the reality of today’s world and bring the strength, power and energies of spiritual awareness and wisdom into the fight to honor and respect our Mother Earth.   We must stop talking about it and get busy giving assistance to the activists.

The activists must learn they cannot do it alone.   They must ask for Divine Intervention, Divine Knowledge and Divine Wisdom.  They must move away from the idea that they are saving the earth simply for the sake of future generations of consumers.   The activists must acknowledge that this is a spiritual battle and not just a fight over land use, economics or esthetics.   They must bring energies of the Light to bear against the greedy forces of darkness that subject the Mother to unspeakable horrors.

These two forces must become one on a massive worldwide scale.   Anything less leaves the outcome in doubt.

When these two groups fuse into one, the battle will no longer be fought in boardrooms and courtrooms.   The confrontation will be moved to a higher plane where justice, respect, honor, and love conquers all.    The warrior grounded in reality of the dark with the sword of light at his side becomes a powerful, fearless and outright irritation to those in power.

Something Wicked This Way Comes
Cosmic Changes
Mind-boggling Phenomena Reported by Russian Scientists
by Drunvalo (

Strange things are happening in both outer and inner space. Scientists in Russia, most prominently a man named Dmitriev, are discovering that the Solar System, the sun, and life itself are mutating in totally unprecedented ways.

The Sun
Let's begin with the Sun. The Sun is the center of our Solar System, and all life that is on this Earth came from the Sun. If there were no Sun, we  would not be alive. This is simply scientific fact. And so any changes that occur in or on the Sun will eventually affect every person alive.

The solar activity during this last sunspot cycle was greater than anything ever seen before. Yet every astronomer that I talked to about this except one insisted that everything was "normal." That one person, who worked at NASA, claimed that what was going on within the Sun was absolutely incredible. She also said that she was not "allowed" to talk about it. But she talked anyway, because she felt that the world needed to know, but at the same time she asked that I not publicly discuss what she had said. Sort of a Catch-22.

So let's look at the obvious question: What is normal?

For scientists, the idea of "normal" is based on making a long-term study, then averaging the results. But in the case of the Sun, we have been studying it for only about a 100 years and it was not until the last half of the 20th century that the study was done with instruments that could be considered especially accurate. And so, since the Sun is at least 4.5 billion years old, our 100- or 50-year study of it is equivalent to writing about the final one or two seconds in the life of a man or woman who lived for 100 years.  Would you consider that biography reliable?

We actually know nothing about the Sun that would enable us to say what is "normal."

We do know, however, that the Sun's magnetic field has changed in the last 100 years. There's a study by Dr. Mike Lockwood from Rutherford Appleton National Laboratories, in California. Dr. Lockwood has been investigating the Sun, and reports that since 1901 the overall magnetic field of the Sun has become stronger by 230 percent. No one knows what that truly means;  it's only an observation.

And we do know that some of the sunspot activity in this last cycle was greater than anything ever recorded before in history. But we don't know what that means, either.

The Solar System
Then comes the information out of Russia last month, from the Russian National Academy of Science in Siberia, where scientists have come to the conclusion that we have moved into an area of space that is different and has a much higher energy level.

The Russians are reporting changes that are being recorded in space that have never been seen before. We cannot verify this information "for certain," but we do know that the scientific body reporting it is real, and that a Dr. Dmitriev does head this body. Also, I have personally been before the Russian National Academy of Science, in Moscow.

Speaking for the Academy in Siberia, Dr. Dmitriev says that the effects reported below have been observed (these are not quotes from Dr. Dmitriev, but extracts from his report).

Changes to the Leading Edge of the Heliosphere
The Sun itself has a magnetic field, and that magnetic field creates an "egg" around the Solar System that is known as the "heliosphere." The heliosphere is shaped like a teardrop, with the long, thin end of the drop pointing away from the direction in which we're traveling.

The Russians have looked at the leading edge of this heliosphere, and they have observed glowing, excited plasma energy there. The Sun's heliosphere used to be 10 astronomical units deep (an astronomical unit is the distance from the Earth to the Sun, approximately 93 million miles) 10 astronomical units was the "normal" thickness of this glowing energy that we used to see at the front end of the Solar System.

Today, Dr. Dmitriev says that this glowing energy is now 100 astronomical units deep.

The Russian National Academy of Sciences doesn't give us a time-line, but the change from what was known and accepted to the way it is now represents a 1000 percent increase.

And the Russians say that this change in the Sun is changing how the planets function and what kind of life they could support. They even report, but don't explain that the DNA spiral itself is altering. They feel that the continued expansion of the heliosphere will eventually take us into a new level of energy, that there will probably be a sudden expansion of the basic harmonic wavelengths that the Sun emits as it radiates energy out of itself, and that this increase in energy emission will change the basic nature of all matter in the Solar System.

That's a pretty bold statement, but it's followed by data to back it up:  The atmospheres of five of the planets and the Earth's moon are changing.

When the United States landed on the moon in 1969, it found no atmosphere. Since then, the earth's moon is growing an atmosphere that wasn't there before, made up of a compound that Dr. Dmitriev refers to as "Natrium."  This new atmosphere is now 6,000 kilometers deep.

The earth's atmosphere in the upper levels is forming HO gas that was not there before. It simply did not exist in the quantity that it does now. The Russians say it's not related to global warming and it's not related to CFCs or fluorocarbon emissions or anything like that. It's just showing up.

The Martian atmosphere is getting sizably thicker than it was before. The Mars Observer probe in 1997 lost one of its mirrors, which caused it to crash. This happened because the atmosphere was about twice as dense as  NASA had calculated. Basically, the wind on that little mirror was so high that it blew it right off.

The atmospheres of Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune also are changing, according to the Russians, but they didn't explain.
The brightness of the planets is changing.
Venus is showing marked increases in its overall brightness.
Jupiter's energetic charge has risen so high that there is actually a visible tube of ionizing radiation that's formed between the surface of Jupiter and its moon Io. You can actually see the luminous energy tube in photographs that have been taken recently.

Uranus and Neptune also are becoming brighter.
Magnetic fields are changing.
Jupiter's magnetic field has more than doubled.
Uranus's magnetic field is changing with no explanation.
Neptune's magnetic field is increasing.
All three of these planets are becoming brighter, and their atmospheric qualities, say the Russians, are changing but they do not explain what  is meant by this. What's truly amazing, since some people here on Earth have been expecting and predicting a pole shift for some time now, is that the Russians report that Uranus and Neptune appear to have had recent pole shifts. When the Voyager II space probe flew past Uranus and Neptune, the apparent north and south magnetic poles were sizably offset from where the rotational pole was in earlier recordings. In one case, it was 50 degrees off, and in the other case the difference was around 40 degrees.

Earth Changes
Let's talk about Earth now.  The Russians report two more facts:  On Earth, the overall volcanic activity increased 500 percent from 1875 to 1975, while the earthquake activity has increased by 400 percent since 1973.

Dr. Dmitriev says that comparing the years 1963 to 1993, the overall number of natural disasters  hurricanes, typhoons, mud slides, tidal waves, etc. have increased by 410 percent. The Earth's magnetic field has been decreasing. This decrease actually began 2000 years ago, but the rate of decrease suddenly became much more rapid 500 years ago. Now, in the last 20 years or so, the magnetic field has become erratic. Aeronautical maps of  the world which are used to allow airplanes to land using automatic pilot systems have had to be revised worldwide in order for the automatic pilot systems to work. (This is very easy to check. Simply look at an aeronautical map prior to 1990 for any particular city airport, and then compare it to a present-day map.)

Late last year, the Arctic ice cap on the exact spot of the North Pole completely melted for the first time in known history. Green Peace reported that, relative to the winter ice pattern, the cap had previously melted over 300 miles toward the pole, and that late last year both military and civilian ships were able to actually pass directly over the North Pole. It was water. Until now, as far as we know, there has never been a time where the ice was less than ten feet thick.

In contrast, the South Pole has an ice cap that is about three miles deep, and yet huge pieces of ice continue to break off and melt.

What Is Going On?
Since 1900 we have gone from riding horses to landing on the moon. From sending letters by horseback to firing them off with instantaneous email, videophone, and satellites.

On the negative side, we have gone from warring with primitive weapons to atomic bombs and bioterrorism.

And perhaps even more significantly, in 1900 the Earth had 30 million species, species which took billions of years to create. Now, we have less than half that number fewer than 15 million species. And this all happened in 100 years! A geological blink of an eye.

If someone from another planet were watching the Earth, they would say it was dying.

But now it seems something is going on that is beyond "business as usual."  In their report, the Russians say that these same kinds of phenomena were occurring when the dinosaurs became extinct at a time that marked a gigantic shift in the earth's climate and weather patterns, and perhaps a pole shift, as well.

Stay Tuned
In September 1999, I talked with Dr. Edgar Mitchell, the astronaut who walked on the moon and he told me that NASA had learned as many bits of information in five years as all of mankind had learned since the beginning of civilization, 6000 years ago. Further, he said that NASA had learned as much in the past six months as they had learned in that amazing five-year period.

But NASA is not sharing these revelations with us. So of course they would not reveal information that is as radical as that which the Russians are reporting. It is their nature to be silent about phenomena that could change the way we perceive ourselves in our rapidly changing world.

[In November, John Sun Eagle passed away in Virginia. - Submitted by Red Wing Vinson, Memphis]
Some years back, my Monacan sister Red Wing introduced me to John Sun Eagle. He and his wife Sharon (aka) Gentle Wind) lived on the Mattaponi Reservation in Virginia.
They had started a sponsoring  program to assist children and elders living in sub standard conditions across America. I was able to take part of that program myself for a while.  They were able to keep it going, including paying utility bills for the poor, Christmas and Easter gifts for kids that would get nothing at all otherwise... and back to school supplies for so many little ones, and much more. Usually they did without themselves in order to meet the needs of others.
We lost John to cancer a few days ago... Sharon lost the husband and best friend  of many years. And children and elders and low income peoples on the Pine Ridge, Rosebud , Mattaponi and many more Rez's lost their champion.
John once beaded an Eagle Feather for my husband (Jack) ,to honor his act of bravery (getting between 2 men beating on a kid)... right now, Jack and I wish we could do something as eloquent to honor John Sun Eagle.Maybe you can  read his own words.
I do not know if the following  will travel well in e mail...its a cut and paste of their old web site... I know it is not up and running at this time, and do not know what Sharon will do...
Please pray for John to continue his good deeds from where he now is. And for Sharon to feel a great consolation and peace.  It was only a broken and worn out body that John discarded... his spirit is very much alive and well.

Blood Quantum Does Not Determine Identity

To:  Bureau of Indian Affairs

Native America does not believe that the BIA or any other government organization has the right to determine who is or is not Native American by degree of blood. There is no other group in America that is ever asked who they are by how much blood.

This archaic process began in 1705 in Virginia as a way of denying civil rights to blacks and Indians who at that time were assumed to be inferior races. Many states instituted these laws as a way of deciding who had equal rights to whites and encouraged people of color to relinquish their identities so as to be able to enjoy the rights freely given to others.  In this way, it was assumed that Native people would eventually become extinct through assimilation and intermarriage.  But this did not, and will not, happen.  Native people, even through intermarriage and assimilation will not disappear.  Even through intermarriage and assimilation, Native people still hold tightly to their culture and their lineage and must be honored and recognized by their own determination alone, not by degree of blood.

The idea that any government can identify who is Native and who is not by blood quantum is an out dated and unnecessary ideology that is held today because of the governments unwillingness to provide services to people with certain degrees of blood. It is time to do away entirely with this process. Blood quantum does not determine who and what Indians are. Only Native societies and /or communities have the sovereign right to determine who is and who isn't a part of their nation, tribe, clan, or community. Because it has always been an Indian value to be inclusive, high numbers of black Indians, Hispanics and Anglos have been accepted through various means into many Indian communities, in addition to those who are Indian, with mixed ancestry. Every indigenous nation had and has a process for accepting, or adopting outsiders into the fold.  From mixed blood Indians through intermarriage, to like-minded people of other races, indigenous communities and nations must determine "who is Indian".

It is no mystery that America has financial obligations to its Indian nations and "certified" Indian people, but these are doled out intermittently and begrudgingly. Simply put, the fewer indigenous citizens, the less money will be paid out. And the more difficult it is to be legally certified "Indian", the less Indians there will be. Not only is this racist economics in action but it is also blood quantum genocide. By allowing America to determine who is Indian, simply because the government doesn't want to be held accountable, to their word, by meeting their obligations, we allow the US government to legislate Indians out of existence. No other group including African Americans, Asians, Latinos need a card to prove who they are.

With this petition, we are declaring that the only recognition necessary is that of community acceptance and involvement. This is the right of our sovereignty and self determination. As with all other people in all other social programs in this country, the people that should be the recipients of Indian government programs should be determined solely by need, not by blood quantum and not by association with reservations.

Woableza Update:
We spoke with Lakota Holy Man Robert Woableza LaBatte last week. He is practicing some fox medicine right now as he remains in seclusion.  He is getting good medical care and treatment.

The metal plate in his head is causing headaches - but he knows pain brings strength. Hearing in his left ear is reduced - but when the spirit speaks he needs no ears.

The feeding tube in his side remains - but real sustenance comes from love.

Stuttering from the trauma plagues him - but his words are as beautiful as ever.

Many of you are concerned that Woableza cannot be contacted by telephone or email.  Please be patient with the healing process.  Know that he is safe and progressing.
